Casey Roonan

Cartoonist. RISD Undergrad. Jacksonian everyman.
“Winterpop,” digital (ink on bristol and acrylic), 12” x 12”, 2012.
Designed for The All-About’s second LP, I wanted to create something that was nice and simple, and readable from an iTunes-thumbnail size. I decided to focus on the image of feet, not so much as a tribute to Quentin Tarantino but as a reference to one of the album’s lyrics about a “barefoot girl.” Likewise, the central figure is taken from the song “Too Dressed Up (Not to Go Dancing),” which is like “Single Ladies” written from the outside perspective of a depressive, sentimental wallflower who just can’t handle it. Actually, just about the entire record could be described as dance music for that guy, so that’s another reason I chose the repeated image of legs and feet. “Winterpop” is a pretty good title, but the name of the whole album could have actually just been taken from the single - “Lovesick Anthems.”
Check out the album at The All-About’s Bandcamp. It’s one hundred percent free, and of course the only way to fully appreciate this art is to view it on your iPod! Do it.
