“awKARDS!” ink and spray-paint on bristol board, 2 1/2” x 3” x 1/2” (21 cards, plus box), 2011.
Given the prompt to create a “toy or game” for my 3D class, I immediately tried to come up with a way to avoid the assignment completely and draw a comic, instead. The concept I decided on was to make a Magic: The Gathering style trading card game that removed all the “magic” and game-like qualities from trading card games and focused on a mundane scenario from everyday life. The set-up would be that the player walks into a coffee shop and sees a cute girl, and is immediately paralyzed with indecision on how to approach her. There are no apparent rules to the game, only one player is involved, and it’s impossible to win -or even play at all.
I had more fun making these than I did doing anything else all year.
(You may have to follow the link above to my DeviantArt page in order to read all of it. Apologies.)
